Marielle Clare is a supremely talented... Just kidding. I'm Marielle. Hi.
I'm a British actress, photographer and writer (damn multi-hyphenate millennials) based between London and NYC. I grew up between a tiny village in the English countryside and the Middle East before moving to the west coast of Australia at 15. It was there that I caught the acting bug, bought my first camera and began writing my own plays and short films. My love of storytelling grew during the solo backpacking that followed. After adventures across Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe, I returned to the UK where I completed my BA at the University of Sussex, specialising in documentary filmmaking. I also began working as a music tour photographer, spending the best part of two years back on the road (sorry mum). Somehow managed to complete my degree thanks to frantic tour bus/plane/hotel lobby essay writing (you're welcome mum).
Upon my return, my bags weren't unpacked for long. In 2016, I travelled to France where I began working in 'The Jungle' refugee camp in Calais. I later went on to direct and produce a documentary on the journeys of some of the extraordinary people calling the camp home. I remain a passionate and active voice in the refugee rights community both in the UK and abroad.
After a whirlwind few years, I decided the time was right to get back to my first love; acting. Okay, second love. My first love was a seven year old Scottish boy called Adam (I was also seven). That dream died when he pulled up my school dress in front of his friends and told everyone I had a willy (I don't). I digress. The next few years would see me train at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, move to New York to study Method Acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, throw myself into the audition hustle, make my Off-Broadway debut and experience my first LA pilot season (terrifying). Oh, and move between Manhattan and Brooklyn 27,465 times. Death by 6th floor walk up... My next screenplay?
On the topic of screenplays, I am now writing my first feature film set for completion in the coming months. I am represented by Ellipsis Entertainment Group (Theatre, Film & Television) and The Narrow Road Company (Commercials & Print). When I'm not playing on either side of the camera or writing, I can usually be found hopping on a plane and escaping city life for a while. These itchy feet are definitely happiest when in the ocean or up a mountain.
